Pioneer Recreation and Sport Centre

Welcome to Pioneer Recreation and Sport Centre, a modern recreation and aquatic facility.

The fitness centre is well equipped with a wide rage of cardio and weight gear, with an aerobic studio, spin studio and circuit room.

Latest news

  • Pioneer's expanded winter Spin timetable is now running - check out the Group Fitness timetable for extra classes. (as the weather turns there is an increase in participations in the Spin Classes - to ensure you don’t miss out on your favourite bike/class/instructor we recommend
    you booking ahead).
  • Pioneer are also holding Double Spin classes for 6 weeks from the 29th April. Participants have the option to do back to back spin classes either on a Monday or Tuesday evening 5.30pm and 6.30pm. Come along to either class and pay the normal price: Members $5.10 Casual $9.50; Or dare to do the double: Members $7.60 Casual $14.20.
  • The wave machine in the Leisure Pool is out of action until further notice 
  • Roading, wastewater & stormwater repair work is underway around Pioneer. For detailed information on how access to Pioneer via Lyttelton Street please see the SCRIT rebuild website. From 20th February until the end of May 2013 Lyttelton Street will be one way and Roberta Drive and Conway Street will be partly closed on certain dates, for more information please click here.

Our range of recreation programmes and fitness classes is suitable for both casual visitors and members for a fun active way to get healthy. Check out our weekly group fitness timetable. Our popular pre-schoolers class 'Tumbletimes', runs regularly during Term time, see the Recreation programmes page for more information on this casual fun pre-school gym class.

Swimsmart aquatic programmes including learn to swim classes are also held at Pioneer and cater for a full range of ages and levels of ability.

Pioneer Recreation and Sport Centre is located at 75 Lyttelton Street, Somerfield, next to Centennial Park.

Public transport

The Orbiter Bus stops right outside, on Lyttelton street.

There are 256 parking spaces available  (including disability and 10 minute).
