About the park

Hagley Park has been at the heart of Christchurch since the 1850s when it was set aside for recreation and enjoyment of Christchurch residents. Today Hagley Park is the most significant central city park and offers a diverse range of entertainment and recreational facilities close to the city centre.

Renowned for its extensive area of 165 hectares (407 acres), its wide-open spaces and mature woodlands, the park is a major sporting and cultural focal point with netball courts, a golf course, soccer and rugby pitches.

The park is divided into North and South Hagley Parks, divided by Riccarton Avenue. Cycle tracks and pathways go through and around the park allowing you to enter and exit around its perimeter.

For running enthusiasts the North Hagley perimeter is 4.5km whilst the South Hagley perimeter 3.7km. There is a 17-station fitness circuit along the perimeter track of North Hagley Park.

Hagley Golf Club is situated in North Hagley Park, offering a 12-hole course and is open to members and non members.

The Christchurch Netball Centre is situated on Hagley Avenue, the south side of the park. For bookings contact the centre: phone (03) 379 4486 .
