Banks Peninsula bays and beaches

Banks Peninsula has some stunning bays, beaches and coves. Many are very secluded and offer a great day out.

We have included some of the more popular destinations but there are many more in the area.

Small sandy beach. Jetties, picnic areas, toilets and children’s play area.

Camp Bay

Off Camp Bay Road

Unsealed road from Purau Bay. Nice bay with picnic area and toilets.

Cass BayOff Bayview Place Sheltered cove with toilets and children’s playground.

Chateris Bay

Off Marine Drive

Fishing jetty and toilets.

Corsair Bay

Off Park Terrace, Lyttelton

Sheltered beach, great for families. Moored rafts, picnic areas, toilets and changing rooms and childrens playground.

Diamond Harbour beach

Off the access road to the wharf

Sandy beach with toilets.

Le Bons Bay beach

Off Le Bons Bay Road

Sandy beach, good for swimming. Picnic area, toilets, tennis courts amd a dog exercise park.

Little Akaloa beach

Off Chorlton Road

Pebble beach with picnic areas and toilets. Wharf on one side of the bay.

Okains Bay beach

Off Okains Bay Road

Sandy beach with camping and picnic areas, toilets, childrens play area.

Paradise beach

Off Marine Drive

Sandy beach with no facilities. Dogs are not permitted.

Purau Bay beach

Off Purau Ave

Shallow beach with a picnic area. Next to Purau Stream. Campground and toilets across the road.

Quail Island beach

Access by ferry from Lyttelton

Nice swimming beach with toilets and picnic areas.

Sandy Beach

Off Sandy Bay Road, Governors Bay

Secluded beach with toilet and picnic table. Best at low and mid tide.

Tikao Bay beach

Sloping beach. Jetty, picnic area and toilets.

Wainui Bay beach

Jetty, picnic areas and toilets.
