Park and ride at Christchurch Hospital from 28 October
PARKING & SITE CHANGES AT CHRISTCHURCH HOSPITAL
Parking has always been a challenge at Christchurch Hospital.
During the construction of the Acute Services Building, parking will be more challenging. On site parking will be only for mobility parking and for life-threatening emergencies.
150 public pay-and-display parking spaces will be lost from the site from Tuesday October 28.
CDHB is putting in the following initiatives to help patients:
New, two-way traffic flows across the front of the site.
The Riverside entrance is now closed, with everyone asked to use the main front entrance to Christchurch Hospital.
A new drop-off zone outside the main entrance.
More mobility parking on site than at present.
Park and ride shuttle bus facilities from a nearby public pay-and-display car park. The shuttle ride itself will be free.
Increased assistance for the public available in the main entrance to Christchurch Hospital, including more orderlies on duty and 50 extra volunteers who have been recruited to help support people being dropped off, and help guide them through the hospital.
Eventually a new car park (c 200 cars) will be built at the front of the site, where the Hagley Outpatients building is.
