About this ride

It's a steep climb to the Summit Road, but there is tremendous reward once there with fantastic views and a sense of being far removed from the City.

  • Start either the Sumner or Cashmere end of the ride.
  • At Cashmere end of ride there is an option of taking the steeper Dyers Pass Road or the slightly easier via Hackthorne Road.
  • Dyers Pass and Hackthorne Roads are busy roads. Please take care when crossing at the intersection when the Hackthorne Road route crosses Dyers Road.
  • The two routes combine at the Sign of the Takahe.
  • Follow Dyers Pass Road up to the saddle at the Sign of the Kiwi.
  • At the Sign of the Kiwi, turn left and follow the undulating and in places Summit Road through to Evans Pass Road.
  • At Evans Pass, turn left and follow Evan Pass Road down to Sumner village.
  • Or continue out to Godley Head.
