About this ride

A popular 45 km training ride that takes in the city's best views (+3 hours, depending on speed and stops).

  • Start at Dyers Pass Road.
  • Follow uphill Dyers Pass Road to the Sign of the Kiwi (7.5 km).
  • Follow the fast and steep road down the Lyttelton side of Dyers Pass Road (3 km).
  • Turn left at the bottom of the hill.
  • Follow the scenic ride around the bays toward Lyttelton (9 km).
  • Stop at Lyttelton to stretch your legs or get a coffee.
  • Join the road that climbs up Evans Pass and into Sumner.
  • The Lyttelton side of Evans Pass is a gradual climb to Summit Road (30 minutes).
  • There is a rapid decent into Sumner.
  • Stop at Sumner to stretch your legs.
  • Follow the flat ride around the base of the Port Hills through Heathcote Valley.
  • For the very fit, take a short sharp up-and-over Murray Aynsley Hill.
  • Follow Centaurus Road back to arrive at Dyers Pass Road.
