Worsleys to Bowenvale Valley

About this ride

Start: At the end of Flying Nun just off the Summit Road.

Finish: Bowenvale car park.

Access: Park or ride to the Sign of the Kiwi and bike 100m west along Summit Road, turn right onto start of track.

Signage: None at the start or during the track, but Bowenvale car park is an obvious finish.

  • The ride begins on a fast flowing single track that traverses under the Summit Road. Enjoy the great views down the forested valley out towards Christchurch and the Southern Alps.
  • After approx 1.3 km the single track merges with a 4WD track – called Old Dyers Pass Track. This continues on for 1 km before you cross the Summit Road and make your way into Victoria Park.
  • After crossing the Summit Road, ride the 4WD track that takes you to the main tar sealed road in Victoria Park. Follow the tar seal road to the right for 400m before turning left onto a gravel road, this leads to an open area with some picnic tables, drinking fountain and map information panel. This area links in with the Victoria Park down hill tracks.
  • From the picnic tables take a left down the 4WD track or suit yourself and try one of the many single tracks that snake through the forest to the bottom of the Bowenvale Valley and car park.
  • The 4WD track in the Bowenvale Valley is often busy with walkers and runners – so please control your speed.
  • This is a great ride with loads of cross country and down hill variety – and also a good value ride if you've exerted yourself and biked up from the bottom.
