About this ride
Start: Thomsons car park at the top of Victoria Park car park. Start the track 10m below the car park and turn right onto a track, which then enters pine trees.
Finish: The top of Huntsbury Track just below the Summit Road at the base of Mt Vernon.
Access: If coming from Christchurch, turn left at the Sign of the Kiwi onto the Summit Road. Drive/bike approx 1 km east along summit road to Thomsons carpark. This carpark is the where all/most down hill runs start in Victoria Park.
Signs: Posted at each end.
- A fast smooth graveled track that starts in pine forest then opens out into tussock country for the remainder of the ride.
- The track runs parallel with the Summit Road passing beneath Sugar Loaf Scenic Reserve. Glance up and you'll see the TV tower looming high into the sky.
- A fun cross-country track with the added bonus of jumps scattered along the way – but you can easily avoid these by staying on the main trail.
- Stunning views over the Canterbury Plains and down through the Bowenvale Valley.
