Christchurch has a proven track record for the successful and professional delivery of sporting events. The Christchurch City Council’s Sports Services Team can offer support in some or all of the following ways:
- Provision of event management advice to groups organising sporting events and activities
- Provision of local, regional and sport specific promotional material
- Provision of an advisory service on Christchurch City Council services, general sport information and regulatory requirements
- Co-ordination of the writing and production of bid documents and presentations to secure events and activities
- Assistance with the advertising, promotion and publicity of sporting events and activities
- Provision of Christchurch City Council written and verbal endorsement, along with Christchurch City Council branding
- Financial assistance towards the costs of hosting a major sporting event or activity.
Annual sports events such as the Armstrong Motor Group Festival of Cycling, Le Race, the Christchurch SBS Marathon and BMW New Zealand Open, Speight's Coast to Coast and the Pegasus New Zealand Women's Open as well as one off international and national events continue to make Christchurch a vibrant and exciting city.
These sports events are Council-funded and developed by the Sports Services Team in conjunction with event managers and sports associations.
