Events and festivals
Christchurch is renowned for its festivals and cultural events, playing host to a huge calendar of events with something happening every month of the year.
We aim to 'inspire passion for the lifestyle qualities and identity of Christchurch.'
The Christchurch City Council is a strong supporter of events and festivals. We are committed to remaining a leading events destination in New Zealand.
We are continually developing new event ideas and host a major iconic event every season – from the Ellerslie International Flower Show in early autumn, to the most long-standing city festival held in spring: New Zealand Cup and Show Week.
There are always quality sporting and community events on around the city.
Last year we were successful in our bid to host two Rugby World Cup 2011 quarterfinals. The Council will work closely with RWC partners over the next two years to put on an unforgettable experience.
