Local community events attract a significant level of funding commitment from Council. These events showcase the many different communities that live in Christchurch and help provide multiple benefits for Christchurch residents.
Some of Christchurch's community events include the Garden City SummerTimes festival; TV2 KidsFest, the Akaroa French Fest; Guy Fawkes at New Brighton Pier and the Chinese Lantern Festival.
Other smaller events organised by community groups and organisations include Clean Up New Zealand Week and Neighbourhood Week.

Heritage Week
Following the earthquake on 22 February, the decision was made to cancel the 2011 Heritage Week being held in October as the resources of both the Council and the community were focused on responding to that event.
In 2012, heritage staff will again be focussed on recovery and the Council will not be running a Heritage Week event. Council staff are engaged in ongoing heritage work including the Central City Plan, heritage recovery work and ongoing heritage response work. Read more.
