Once full payment has been received, the Certificate of Purchase will be posted out to the purchaser. This should then be put in a safe place as proof of purchase of the plot.
If a family wish to pick a particular plot at the time of a burial the Funeral Director will arrange for the family to meet Council staff at the cemetery. Fees will be charged through the Funeral Director on behalf of the Council.
A full plot will hold two burials, with one being double depth and the other placed on top. There is also room to place up to four lots of ashes in this plot, but only one headstone is allowed. Two lots of ashes may be placed in a full size plot without impediment to subsequent casket burials.
Headstones
Arrangements for a headstone are made by the family through a Monumental Mason. They are listed in the Yellow Pages under Monumental Masons. The Monumental Mason will liaise with the Christchurch City Council to confirm the burial plot and apply for the necessary permit.
