There are 21 cemeteries administered by the Christchurch City Council, three of which (Addington, Woolston and Barbadoes Street) are closed.
The
Christchurch City Council Cemeteries Database includes entries for 12 of these, but does not currently cover the Banks Peninsula area – records of which are maintained by the Akaroa, Little River and Lyttelton Service Centres.
Christchurch City Libraries can also assist customers with queries regarding local burials and has a range of cemetery guides.
Some of the original cemetery records are held by Christchurch City Archives but we ask that you search the Christchurch City Council Cemeteries Database or resources held by Christchurch City Libraries in the first instance.
