Liquor licensing

Photo of CBD Alcohol Accord Sign and empty bottles.

If you are planning to sell alcohol you must have the correct licence along with a responsibility programme stating how you will care for your patrons. You must also have a certified general manager on duty at all times although there may be exceptions. Within the Christchurch area, these licences can only be obtained through the Christchurch City Council.

Find out more about the types of licences available, application forms required, checklists and your responsibilities as a host.

A District Licensing Agency officer subcommittee sits at 1.00 pm every Wednesday (as advertised in the local newspaper) at which time unopposed applications are considered and those liquor licenses and managers certificates are issued.  The public are invited to attend these meetings.
