Lost and Found
People losing any kind of animal need to contact Animal Control Operations. All relevant details are listed in a book central to the staff. It is important that dogs are described accurately and that contact telephone numbers given are relevant to working hours. Animal Control Operations also holds information about animals recently impounded but strongly recommends that owners take responsibility for going to the Shelter and physically looking for their dog. This is due to the fact that many dogs are cross breeds, dog descriptions are interpretational and no dog can be accurately identified over the telephone.
It is important that people know this service is not limited to dogs. Stock and poultry have also been reunited with their owners through Animal Controls efforts.
The Council has an after hours phone service and has Animal Control Officers on standby for high priority calls 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. This includes emergency issues like dog rushings and bitings, stock on roads and also collection of wandering dogs where these are secured ready for picking up. The telephone number for this service is 941-6643.
