Central City

Tips to help you and the CBD collectors [PDF 320KB]

There are four refuse and recycling collection areas in the Central City.

• Central Business District daily (coloured orange on the map below)
• Thursday evening collection (coloured pink on the map below)
• Friday Collection ( coloured green on the map below)
• Lane Truck Friday mornings (coloured blue on the map below)

The normal 7.30am start collection time does not apply and suitable times in these areas have been chosen to:

• reduce the nuisance factor to businesses
• reduce litter
• reduce the noise factor for residents in the area
• avoid peak traffic times
• increase visibility of recycling crates (not so many parked cars)
• reduce the risk of accidents

Central Business District

Fulton Hogan is the contractor for this area to collect official Council rubbish bags seven nights a week. It is a late evening collection service. Rubbish bags need to be placed out by 5.30pm to ensure collection. Businesses need to purchase their own bags. Residential properties are posted once a year a coupon for 26 bags as per the rates details.

Recycling is collected by waste management on Wednesday evenings. The crates need to be out by 5.30pm.

Poplar Street

Refuse collection as above.

Recycling is collected by Waste Management on Tuesdays. The crates need to be out by 11am.

Thursday Evening Area

This is mainly a residential area bordered by Bealey Ave, Barbadoes St and Moorhouse Ave and the CBD. It includes:

• the City Side of Bealey Avenue
• both sides Barbadoes Street
• Nova Place off Barbadoes Street
• Lichfield Tuam and St Asaph Streets to Fitzgerald Avenue
• Duke Street

This area will receive an evening collection for Rubbish and Recycling. Crates and official Council rubbish bags need to be out by 5.30pm to ensure collection. The recyclables and rubbish bags will be collected by separate vehicles and should be completed by 10pm.

Friday Collection

Due to increasing quantities of collected recyclable etc. changes where made to some of the Inner city area collection times, changing to a Friday daytime Collection as of 23 April 2004.

Friday daytime collection is for the inner city streets between Fitzgerald Avenue and Barbadoes Street but excludes:

• Nova Place
• Lichfield St
• Tuam Street
• St Asaph Street
• Duke Street

Rubbish bags and recycling crates must be out at kerbside by 7.30am to ensure collection.

Lane Trucks

Small lanes will be serviced by a special truck. These streets are coloured blue on the map. Rubbish bags and Recycling will be collected and sorted on the one vehicle. This service starts at 7am on Friday mornings and all bags and crates need to be out by 7am, in the streets marked blue, to ensure collection.
