Collection days
Christchurch domestic rubbish and recycling is collected weekly from about 127,000 households. Christchurch is split into six areas, consisting of the Inner City (including the Central Business District) and five suburban areas.
Suburban areas
Collection of rubbish bags and recycling starts at 7:30am on the weekday specified for your area and should be completed by 4:00pm. Collection times may vary depending on the route chosen, so to ensure your rubbish bags and recycling crates are collected, please place them at your gate by 7:30am.
Note: There are some areas in Christchurch where collection times may differ due to traffic congestion and the safety of workers and the public. E.g. Papanui Road and Riccarton Road are collected at night, so bags need to be out by 5:30pm to ensure collection. Trucks collecting small lanes may collect on a different day and time to the rest of the area.

Inner city area including the CBD
The Central Business District (CBD) has a daily refuse collection service and a weekly recycling collection service. Other inner city areas have weekly collection only.
Collection of refuse and recycling is done at night. These times vary, so rubbish bags and recycling crates need to be out by 5:30pm to ensure collection.
