Refuse Stations

Christchurch City Council has five refuse stations.

Banks Peninsula has two transfer stations, as well as many collection points for rubbish and recycling. For more information see below:

Only bagged, household rubbish should be placed in the rubbish cage or skip.

Recycling Drop Off Points  (Recycling Drop Offs, Skip Transfer Stations)
The following items are accepted at the Recycling Drop Off Points - paper and small thin card (in a supermarket plastic bag with the handles tied), cardboard (folded flat and tied), plastic bottles (rinsed and squashed), glass bottles (rinsed - whole only), tin cans (rinsed with bottoms removed and flattened) and aluminium cans (rinsed and squashed).

Winter Hours
(Standard Time: First Sunday of April to Last Sunday of September)

  • Wednesday, Saturday & Public Holidays* 12(Noon) - 4pm,
  • Sunday 10am - 4pm

Summer Hours (Daylight Saving Time: Last Sunday of September to First Sunday of April)

  • Monday, Wednesday, Saturday & Public Holidays* 12(Noon) - 4pm,
  • Sunday 10am - 4pm

Note The Transfer Stations are closed on the following five public holidays:

  • Christmas Day 25 December
  • Boxing Day 26 December
  • New Years Day 1 January
  • Good Friday
  • Anzac Day 25 April
