Strategies
Council strategies are high-level public documents with a life span of about 10+ years. A strategy will set out a vision, goals and objectives, performance measures and the context for achieving outcomes about a specific issue: e.g. transport, events, safety or social housing.
Plans
A separate implementation plan will outline how a strategy will be fulfilled through Council provision and service delivery, either on its own or in partnership with others. See a list of plans »
Policies
By comparison, an external Council policy is a public statement of position, underpinning and directing the Council's response to ongoing or recurring matters or issues: e.g. ageing population, equity and access for people with disabilities. They are adopted by the Council (i.e. elected councillors) and can be viewed in the Policy Register. Internal Council policies deal with in-house management and operational issues. They are the responsibility of relevant managers in the Council organisation.
