What are the requirements for garage sales?
The Council does not have any specific requirements about Garage Sales but there are some rules that you should be aware of:
Frequency: If you have a Garage Sale on 6 or more different days or expect to receive $2000 or more from the sale of goods you would have to be licensed as a secondhand dealer.
Hours of Operation: You should show consideration to your neighbours and not commence too early in the morning.
Signs: Signs advertising the Garage Sale must not be attached to street and power poles or be displayed in roundabouts. All signs must be removed immediately at the conclusion of the Garage Sale.
Display of Goods: All goods must be displayed within your property boundaries, no goods are to be displayed on the footpath or grass berm.
For further information you will need to contact an Environmental Enforcement Officer.
