The Christchurch Art Gallery Te Puna o Waiwhetu was opened on 10th May 2003 and has its own website which you can access for further information.

Admission
You can visit the Christchurch Art Gallery free of charge. Occasionally some exhibitions will have an admission charge and this will be stated clearly next to any information on the exhibition. In most cases these admission charges can be payed for with cash, eftpos and all credit cards except Diners Club and American Express. Concession rates are available for Students, Senior Citizens and Unwaged (ID required).

Hours of operation
10 am – 5 pm daily, late night Wednesdays until 9 pm.
The Gallery Shop is open 10 am – 5 pm daily, late night Wednesdays until 7 pm (Gallery remaining open till 9 pm).
The Gallery is open every day except Christmas Day.

Wednesday Evenings
Wednesday Evenings are a weekly opportunity to enjoy a range of lectures, floortalks, artists' talks, films, dance and theatrical performances. Events are held in the Gallery's dedicated venues each Wednesday at 6 pm. Entry is free unless otherwise stated.

Wheelchair Hire
The Art Gallery has wheelchairs available to lend to visitors at no cost, but ID (such as a drivers licence or credit card) must be left at the counter as a bond at the time of hire. The ID will be returned on return of the wheelchair. There are 5 wheelchairs available and they can be booked by phoning General Enquiries.

Carparking
The Art Gallery has 190 carparking spaces, which include 5 mobility carparks. Access is via Gloucester Street. Hours: Monday to Friday 7.30 am - 11.45 pm, Saturday 9 am - 11.45 pm and Sunday 9 am - 5.45 pm. Carpark charges are $1.10 per half hour or part thereof.

Bicycle stands
Located near the Gloucester Street public entrance to the Art Gallery. You can also park your bicycle in the Art Gallery carpark free of charge.

Baggage Check-in
All Gallery visitors are asked that they leave their bags and wet weather gear at the Baggage Check-In before entering the exhibition spaces. Small handbags and purses are ok to carry with you. This is gallery policy for care of the Collection.

Guided Tours
Free daily tours are conducted by volunteer guides at 11 am and 2 pm, and range from 15 to 45 minutes. Please meet at the Information Desk in the Foyer. For further information, please call General Enquiries. There is no limit to the number of people able to join these guided tours.

Group tours
Group tours $5 per person. These Group Tours are different to the daily guided tours in that they can be offered at any time that suits the group (within opening hours). The subject of the tour can be chosen by the group and the tour goes into much greater depth and detail than the more generalised daily guided tours. The groups are kept to a maximum of 10 people per guide to assure the quality of the experience. In comparison the more generalised daily guided tours can have a much higher ratio of people per guide. Phone the Public Programmes Officer for more information.

School tours
School groups $1 per child - bookings essential. Phone the Schools Officer for more information.

Christchurch Art Gallery Reference Library
The Art Gallery has a Reference Library that is available to researchers by appointment.
It contains books, magazines, journals, newspaper clippings, exhibition catalogues, archives, artist files as well as photographs, tapes and videos. Please call the Gallery Librarian/Archivist to make an appointment.

Christchurch Art Gallery Venue Hire for functions and events
The foyer and auditorium are available for event hire. For further information please call Venue Hire.

Friends of the Christchurch Art Gallery
The Friends are a large group of enthusiasts committed to supporting the Gallery and encouraging interest in the visual arts.

Membership application forms to become a Friend are available from the Gallery Foyer information desk or by contacting the Friends office. Memberships are for a year (January-December)unless Life Membership:

Student Membership $25
Joint/Double membership $70
Single Life Membership $400
Double Life Membership $700
There are no Eftpos facilities. Payment must be by cash or cheque.

Alchemy Cafe & Wine Bar
Open for dinner Wednesday to Saturday. Alchemy Cafe is open for lunch (9.30am to 5pm). For reservations please call Alchemy Cafe and Wine Bar Reservations.

Form Gallery
A private gallery showcasing work by leading contemporary New Zealand craft artists, Form Gallery offers glass, ceramics, jewellery and object art. 49 Worcester Boulevard. Website: www.form.co.nz

Awards
The Cranleigh Barton Drawing Award, a biennial award established for New Zealand residents in 1993, recognises excellence in drawing and aims to raise its status in visual arts education and practice. The awards, made possible through the legacy of Canterbury watercolourist Cranleigh Barton (1870 – 1975), are jointly presented by the Canterbury Museum, the Christchurch Art Gallery and the Guardian Trust, the executors of Cranleigh Barton’s estate.

Friends Scholarships
The Farina Thompson Drawing Prize is awarded annually to a student at the Christchurch Polytechnic Institute of Technology for excellence in drawing skills.

The University of Canterbury Scholarship is an annual award to a final year student at the University of Canterbury. In alternating years the prize is open to a student in Art History and Fine Arts for excellence in their endeavour of study.
