Where can I ride my horse in the Christchurch area?
Horse riding is also permitted on leased reserves by agreement with Pony Clubs:
- Mary Duncan Park – Ferrymead Pony Club
- Halswell Domain – Halswell Pony Club
- Sumnervale Reserve
Can I get access to the beach to ride my horse?
Yes, the Council places no restrictions on riding on the beach.
However to avoid conflict with other beach users riders should keep well away from surf lifesaving patrolled areas and high use beach areas. Riders should be aware that the beach is used by vehicles north of Heyders Rd to the Waimakariri River. Dog walkers also use the length of Christchurch beach and they may be off leash. In some areas surf kites and land yachts are used and they may be of concern to horses.
A horse float park is available at Spencer Park and Bottle Lake Forest Park.
