Zoning
In the operative Christchurch City Council District Scheme (2nd review 1986) Burwood Park is designated Recreation 3 which states that:
"This zone is intended to provide for active recreation and consists mainly of large recreation reserves used for active sports and organised games. Such reserves will serve a regional and district function but can also have local significance as pedestrian ways, play grounds and open spaces.
Also included in this zone are areas of amenity value provided for both the enjoyment of the public and the protection of the natural environment. A wide range of public recreation facilities is permitted in this zone. In addition facilities for private sports clubs are permitted where they are existing, and as conditional uses, where they are proposed" (Zone statement).
Classification
Burwood Park was held since 1966 in trust by the Council for `Municipal Purposes of the City of Christchurch'.
Burwood Park is now classified `Recreation Reserve" under the Reserves Act 1977, Gazette Notice February 1992, page 503.
