Mount Vernon Park

Mount Vernon Park.

Mt Vernon Park is a good place to explore the easier slopes of the Port Hills. The carpark is nestled snugly in a valley with many short walks up to lookouts, a plane table and a track through a gorge. Longer tracks link up with Rapaki Track, and onto the summit of Mt Vernon itself, where there is the Lamar accessible walk beside the Summit Road. The park is managed by the Port Hills Park Trust.

Access

Carpark is located off The Crescent at the top of Hillsborough Terrace.

Nearest Bus

12 Huntsbury. For further information check out the Christchurch City Bus Services at metro info.

Facilities

  • The short walks from the carpark take 10 – 30 minutes.
  • Mt Vernon Valley Track takes about 1 hour to the point where it meets the Rapaki Track.
  • The Mt Vernon Farm Track climbs up the ridge to Summit Road, taking approximately 1½ hours. Over the road it continues up to the summit of Mt Vernon.
