Rutherford Street (Woolston) Cemetery

End of Rutherford Street (off Ferry Road towards Garlands Road)

The first burial in the Woolston Cemetery took place in 1852. Originally maintained by St John’s Church, the cemetery was taken over by the Council in 1983. It is dominated by the larger old style memorials, many of which mark the graves of prominent people from the Woolston area. This cemetery is full and is now being developed as an historic park.

It has been adopted by the Poutama Training Centre Trust who have been active in tidying up and planting work including a rose garden.

A map of the Rutherford Street Cemetery can be viewed here [PDF, 48 KB, free PDF reader].
