Beach Blast 2009

Sizzling sun, sausage sizzles and sunscreen – all free – are on the menu for the two Beach Blasts in Christchurch this month.

 

Part of the Christchurch City Council’s Holiday Programme, Beach Blast North  (North Beach, Saturday January 17) and Beach Blast South (South Brighton, Saturday January 24) are popular annual summer community events in the Garden City.

 

The local Surf Lifesaving clubs, North Beach and South Brighton, and the North Wai Boardriders Club will hold coaching sessions in surf activities including boogie boarding and surfing for 7-12 year olds at both Blasts. While the activities are free of charge (including equipment), parents are asked register their children for the water events.

 

Other activities include beach volleyball, sandcastle building competition, face painting, touch rugby, cricket and beach flags. Spot prizes will be awarded throughout the day.

There will be ice cream and coffee available for sale and free sausages provided courtesy of Hellers Tasty Ltd. Participants are also encouraged to bring their own food.


There is no charge to participate in the event and the following activities/services are provided free

  FREE sunscreen

  FREE water (BYO drink bottle recommended)

  FREE sausage on site

  FREE activities and games for children and adults


ALL CHILDREN AGED UNDER 14 YRS MUST BE ACCOMPANIED BY AN ADULT.

If you wish to bring your dog, please ensure that the dog is monitored and on a leash at all times. Dogs are not allowed within 100 metres of the surf clubs unless on a leash.

The event is being organised by the Christchurch City Council Recreation and Sports Unit, and funded by the Burwood/Pegasus Community Board. Event partners are North Wai Boardriders, North Beach and South Brighton Surf Life Saving Clubs, Canterbury Surf Life Saving, Youth Alive Trust, Canterbury Volleyball, Cancer Society, SISCO’s Surf School & Surf Shop, 91.3ZM, and Hellers Tasty.

Beach Blast North

  • Time: 9.30am – 1pm
  • Location: North Beach, Marine Parade, opposite Bowhill Road
  • If wet: Event will be cancelled

Beach Blast South

  • Date: Saturday 24 January
  • Time: 9.30am – 1pm
  • Location: South Brighton, Marine Parade, opposite Bridge Street
  • If wet: Event will be cancelled
