An annual festival held in Christchurch and Banks Peninsula to celebrate the heritage of our district.

Active Heritage - Sport, Recreation and Leisure

Saturday 12 to Monday 28 October (Labour Day) 2024.

The Christchurch Heritage Festival is an opportunity to share the stories of the past that link us to this place. He tātai muka, he tātai tangata – weave together the strands, weave together the people.

We welcome new and returning event providers to apply to be part of the Christchurch Heritage Festival 2024 programme. Applications will be open here from Wednesday 8 May to Monday 10 June 2024.

If you have any queries regarding the Christchurch Heritage Festival or would like to be added to our mailing list for direct updates please email heritage@ccc.govt.nz.

Theme

Active Heritage - Sport, Recreation and Leisure

This year’s theme looks to explore our heritage in terms of sport, recreation and leisure.

In the year of the 50th anniversary of the Commonwealth Games in Christchurch let’s discover how sport, recreation and leisure have shaped our diverse communities here in Ōtautahi-Christchurch, Te Pātaka o Rākaihautū-Banks Peninsula and the wider Canterbury region.

Please note - it is not compulsory to relate your event to the theme.
