For over twenty years the Council has had an urban renewal programme. The programme is currently managed by the Strategy and Planning Group. The intention is to upgrade and revitalise the older parts of the city and in doing so, help promote community pride in the neighbourhood.
Since 1987 the council’s urban renewal funding has been concentrated in sixteen Neighbourhood Improvement Areas. Neighbourhood Plans have been prepared for each.
