The Mayor's Welfare Fund
Purpose
The Mayor's Welfare Fund was established in 1897 as the "Mayor's Coal and Blanket Fund".
It exists to provide assistance to families and individuals in our community who are undergoing extreme financial distress. The fund works with other helping agencies in the city and can provide assistance on a once only basis where the need is real.
The fund is a last resort measure when people have exhausted other appropriate sources such as Work and Income New Zealand.
How to apply
Apply in person to the Christchurch City Council Civic Offices 163-173 Tuam Street between 10.00am - 3.30, Tuesday to Friday. No appointment is necessary. The fund office is on the ground floor opposite reception.
