Community Board - Project & Discretionary Funds

Purpose of Project Funding

This year $390,000 is made available to the following six Community Boards to fund projects or activities that will benefit their local communities:

  • Burwood/Pegasus
  • Hagley/Ferrymead
  • Spreydon/Heathcote
  • Fendalton/Waimairi
  • Riccarton/Wigram
  • Shirley/Papanui

Funding applications for 2007/08 close on 9 February 2007.

Banks Peninsula Community Boards

Lyttelton/Mt Herbert and Akaroa/Wairewa Community Boards have $15,000 each for the year to distribute as discretionary funding. There is no funding application deadline as the funds will be distributed throughout the year.

Criteria

Only not-for-profit community groups/organisations may apply for this funding. Individuals or commercial businesses are not eligible to apply.

Community Boards represent different communities and, therefore, have different Board objectives and priorities linked to the overall City’s Community Outcomes. For this reason, the type of projects funded may vary in different wards. However, all projects must be consistent with Council policies and standards.

The project or activity must also commence in the financial year for which the funding is allocated and be based within the Community Board (from which funding is sought) area.

Funding for city-wide projects or activities should be sought from the Council’s Metropolitan Funding Scheme.

Examples of Successful Applications

  • Community Youth Worker salaries.
  • Community based learning opportunities.
  • Local recreation initiatives.

Examples of Unsuccessful Applications

Application Process

For further information on how to apply and Community Board objectives, applicants may contact the Community Development Adviser or Community Secretary for the appropriate Board area on telephone 941-8999.

For the 2007/08 year, applications close on 9 February 2007.

Community groups/organisations will need to complete an application form with details of the organisation or group applying, and the objectives and expected outcomes of the project/activity for which funding is sought.

How to apply?

Applications must be made on the Christchurch City Council's funding application form (PDF 600KB free Adobe Reader) which are available at all Council Service Centres, the Civic Offices and Council Libraries.

Decisions-Making Process

After 9 February 2007, staff will prepare a comprehensive report for each Board, which summarises applications received and recommends whether funding should be granted.

Accountability

These reports will then be considered by the Community Boards, as they decide how to allocate funds.

Community groups/organisations will be advised of whether their applications have been successful in June. Funds will be paid to successful applicants after 1 July 2007.

Community groups/organisations that are successful will need to provide sufficient information to meet the accountability requirements of the Council.

Banks Peninsula applicants

Process for decision-making is similar to the city Community Boards. A staff adviser will make a report to the Community Board and a decision made. Community groups/organisations will be advised of the decision within three months of the application. Community groups/organisations must also complete an accountability report after the project is complete to indicate whether its objectives were met.

Community Funding Schemes Review

You may be aware that the Council is presently reviewing its community grants. Board Project funding will remain the same for 2007/08. Any changes resulting from the review will come in to place for the 2008/09 financial year.
