The Heritage Conservation Policy was adopted by the Christchurch City Council in September 1998.

It consolidates and updates a range of earlier heritage policies adopted by the Council at various times.

These include policies on heritage retention adopted in 1990, policies on heritage incentive funding adopted in 1994, and heritage policies and objectives included in the Christchurch City Plan, notified in 1995.

Recently Council updated Policy 8.1 (Heritage Incentive Grants). The new policy adopted 28 February 2008 supercedes the previous 8.1 policy.
