The Kids' Tool Box - Now You're TalkingAbout the Tool Box

Have you thought about what the impact of your decision making could be upon children and what their perspective might be? Children can make a unique contribution. Their concerns, aspirations and ideas deserve to be heard.

"The Kids' Tool Box - Now You're Talking" has been developed as a resource primarily for internal use by council staff undertaking consultation on behalf of the Christchurch City Council. It can however be a useful resource for other government/ non-government organisations who wish to involve children’s perspectives in decision making.

Kit the Mouse

Meet Kit the Mouse who will offer you practical assistance when it comes to children's participation in decision making. He challenges us to change the way we do things and share some of our decision making so that children’s participation is effective.

Kit explains the Tools in his Toolbox and offers guidance in applying them. Throughout the site, he offers you further ‘Remember’ tips to make the process of engaging children more productive.

Before you embark on your consultation you will need to bear in mind requirements of the new Local Government Act 2002 and the implications of your role.

IMPORTANT: Before embarking on using this resource, you are advised to refer to the Council’s Consultation Policy and the Have Your Say Website which will clarify the council's principals/objectives regarding consultation and legislative requirements.

The site is divided into the following sections -
