The Christchurch City Council is a strong supporter of events and festivals. We are committed to remaining a leading events destination in New Zealand.
We are continually developing new event ideas and host a major iconic event every season – from the Ellerslie International Flower Show in early autumn, to the most long-standing city festival held in spring: New Zealand Cup and Show Week.
There are always quality sporting and community events on around the city.
A major event on the calendar this year is the official Rugby World Cup 2011 Christchurch Fanzone which will be housed in North Hagley Park between September 9 – October 23 2011. All matches will be shown live on the big screens and there will be much more to see and do including the REAL New Zealand Festival, the Rugby Nostalgia Lounges and Newstalk ZB Legends of Rugby Speaker Series in The MasterCard Ruck.
