Land Information Memorandum (LIM)
What is a Land Information Memorandum (LIM)?
A Land Information Memorandum (LIM) is a document issued (normally on payment of a fee) by a Territorial Authority (Council). Anyone may apply for a LIM, which gives information on any land within the Territorial Authority district, including (among other information) any Building Consents or other authorisations applying to buildings on the land. (Local Government Official Information and Meetings Act Section 44A).
What information do I get?
- Rates and water charges.
- Refuse and recycling collection information
- Building Permits and Consents.
- Protected buildings and trees, historic buildings.
- Planning information, eg Resource Consents, planning zones.
- Any special characteristics of the land or buildings.
- Any requisitions issued by the Council within the property.
- Drainage information relating to sewer and / or storm water.
- Resource Consents issued in the immediate neighbourhood.
- Compliance Schedules, Building Warrant of Fitness.
- Registrations Licences.
- Swimming Pool Compliances.
- Valuation data.
What information do I need to give the Council?
- Street address.
- Legal description, eg Lot and DP.
- Current owner.
- Service address and / or fax number.
- Current land use.
How long does it take?
Local Government Official Information and Meetings Act 1987 states in Section 44A that a territorial authority must reply within 10 working days of a request. However most LIMs are completed within five to six working days.

$175.00 (including GST).
Applications can be faxed (payments must follow) or posted.
