Shade Sails Application (incl. fabric canopies & retractable awnings)

For the purposes of the Proposed City Plan rules, shade cloths are generally treated in the same way that a building is in terms of site coverage and building setbacks and recession planes. However, in some cases where shade cloths will not be attached to a dwelling in a living zone (and are accessory buildings) there may be reduced internal boundary setbacks. You are advised to contact the duty planner for further advice.

Small Signs, Minor Commercial Work, Shopping Mall Fitouts

That signs face fixed to a wall, that do not project more than 300mm from the wall, have been globally exempt from the need to obtain a building consent by the Christchurch City Council no application is necessary. This decision is based on section (k)(i) of the first schedule of the Building Act 2004. Note: While the sign is exempt from the need for a building consent, the sign may not comply with City Planning requirements and advice from a planner should be sought.
