New Zealand Open

The New Zealand Open is the country’s most prestigious golfing event, attracting a high calibre of national and international golfers each year for a four day tournament of top entertainment and competitive sport.

Michael Campbell.

In 2011, the Garden City plays host to the BMW NZ Open – the first of three annual events confirmed to be held in Canterbury. This has been a huge coup for the city, with a high number of visitors and a lively atmosphere to generate a positive impact on the city and its ratepayers.

The NZ Open forms part of the major professional tournaments in Australasia, following on from the Australian Open in Sydney, President’s Cup in Melbourne and the Australian PGA in Queensland. The BMW New Zealand Open is the final event on the Australasian Order of Merit for 2011.

The BMW New Zealand Open will be based at Clearwater for three years (2011 to 2013). The event is set to attract top players from around the world each year, given its co-sanction status with the PGA Tour of Australasia and prize-money of $500,000.

Christchurch, the Garden City, is ready to welcome visitors once again to this beautiful region for the biggest golfing tournament in the country.
