Genealogical searches

Christchurch City Libraries and the Cemeteries Administrator hold many records on microfiche (including Church records) and are able to undertake genealogical searches. Christchurch City Council and the cemeteries administrator do not hold any records relating to private or church cemeteries.

Please note there is a charge of $12 per search. You will need to provide the following information, if available: name, approximate date of death and cemetery of the deceased.

Large volumes or frequent research required from the Christchurch City Council Cemeteries Administrator will incur a search fee of $24.00.

Crematoria are privately owned and burial information can be obtained by phoning (03) 389 6282 .

Older records have been placed on microfilm for genealogical searches. Records for the various cemeteries are currently held in these locations.

Computerised copies can also be obtained from the Christchurch City Council for all cemeteries excluding Barbadoes street cemetery.
