These guidelines were developed after the Canterbury Earthquake, 4 September 2010. They are intended as guidelines for owners of heritage and character buildings, to assist with repair and maintenance of these buildings, and are applicable following any earthquake or building damage.

Urban Conservation Areas Study
The Urban Conservation Areas Study identifies which areas within Christchurch meet the criteria to be recognised as Urban Conservation Areas in a future Plan change.
The Study establishes methodology for identifying and assessing Urban Conservation Areas, and includes a summary of heritage values; identification of distinctive physical qualities; history of subdivision and development and heritage significance of a number of areas in the Central City and also suburban parts of Christchurch.

Contextual Historical Overview for Christchurch City
The Contextual Historical Overview for Christchurch City is an historic report which 'slices' Christchurch up into the historic themes of Life in the City, The Built City, and Industry and Commerce. It has been released for public viewing at the Christchurch City Library or on this site.
The report provides a broad overview and understanding of the city and its development in the last 150 years, which is pivotal for the future identifying and managing of heritage in Christchurch.

Issues and option paper: City Plan heritage provisions
The Christchurch City Council has prepared an Issues and Options Discussion Paper as a first step in reviewing the City Plan heritage provisions. It canvases a wide range of heritage management issues and presents a range of options for consideration by the Council and the community.
